This article is for those looking for some side hustle inspiration and/or looking for some new ideas. For those who are unaware, a side hustle is something that you do outside of your normal 9-5 job to bring in extra income. Side hustles are super beneficial for your financial health. They help you pay for expenses or can be put toward investments.

One of the main barriers to starting a side hustle is that people are so busy and think that they don’t have the time. It is a common misconception that you need to spend a lot of time on a side hustle. Listed below are 17 side hustles that are easy to implement and can create another strong stream of income.

#1. Certified Referee

I can personally speak to this as I recently became a patched basketball official. I paid $125 to take the referee course and I now make $40 per game. This side hustle is great because its easy to get started, it works around your schedule, and it pays pretty good

#2. Teaching English

There are number of websites now that will pay you hourly to be an English teacher. From what I’ve read the majority of these gigs require you to have at least a bachelor’s degree. Vipkid and Teachaway are two sites that provide these side hustle opportunities.

#3. Freelance writing

If you enjoy writing then this will be an awesome side hustle for you. There are a bunch of websites with postings for freelancing jobs, such as Craigslist and Upwork.

#4. Airbnb Arbitrage

Airbnb arbitrage is when you sublet an apartment through airbnb. This can get a little tricky as you usually need to have the landlord grant you permission. If you do get permission this side hustle can bring in a lot of extra cash. Make sure to check your local short term vacation rental laws to stay compliant. A great website to check how profitable an apartment in different cities may be is AirDNA.

#5. Rent Out Your Home

With the growth of the shareconomy people are more willing than ever to travel and not stay at hotels. Sites like Airbnb, VRBO, and Homeaway allow you to post your home for rent. The beauty is that you can rent out your entire house or just one bedroom. If you want to get really creative you can rent out a camper in your driveway or even a tent in your backyard as Gina outlines in this article! If you have some extra space in your home/ apartment then you should definitely consider this side hustle. It’s fairly hands off and can bring in some nice cash flow.

#6. Dog Walking

This is a great side hustle if you enjoy getting some exercise and spending time with dogs. You can try to find dog walking gigs by posting your services on sites such as craigslist and Facebook. Two sites that I have heard of but not tried are Wag & Rover. Both sites allow you to offer services for dog walking, sitting, and boarding.

#7. Rent Out Your Car

If you don’t drive your car often or if you have multiple vehicles then this may be the side hustle for you. Sites like Turo and Hyrecar allow you to post your car for rent, the idea is similar to airbnb. This may seem bizarre but it’s a real thing and is a great passive side hustle. Hyrecar claims that car owners are making up to $1,200 a month. An extra $14,400 a year is bad if you ask me.

#8. Retail Arbitrage

I have yet to try this side hustle but I am really intrigued by the idea of it. Retail arbitrage is when you go directly to a brick and mortar store, such as Walmart, and purchase items that are selling for less than they would online. I read an interview recently where this individual made $10,000 over a year through retail arbitrage. He finds product deals at Walmart purchases them in bulk and then sells them on Amazon. Check out that interview here, for more tips.

#9. Web Design

If you have any experience in web design then you should def try to make this a side hustle. Look around at local businesses and see if they have a website that needs improving or needs to be created. Then contact them and offer your services. This can be extremely lucrative and you can potentially make a lot of money just from one deal.

#10. Drive For Uber/Lyft

Most individuals have a couple hours in the evening or on the weekend that are typically unproductive. Why not get in your car and drive for Uber or Lyft and make some extra money. You work when you want and for as long as you want. Check out their websites for information regarding vehicle requirements.

#11. Deliver For Postmates/ Doordash

Postmates and Doordash are both delivery services. Doordash is strictly for food delivery and Postmates can be practically anything. This is an easy flexible side hustle and you can expect to make anywhere between $8-$18. Be sure to check out the website for more information.

#12. Selling on Etsy

Etsy is an ecommerce site where you can find amazing handmade items. If you are a crafty person then selling your creations on Etsy may be a very fun and exciting side hustle.

#13. Teach Your Talent

Do you have any random talents or fields of expertise? Some things that come to mind are playing an instrument, singing, personal trainer, sports athlete, math wiz, etc. If so turn this into a hustle and offer your services to the public. Post your services on craigslist or teach a class on Skillshare. I’m sure that you know how to do something that someone else wants to learn.

#14. Babysitting

One of the oldest side hustles in the book, but can be forgotten. Babysitting can be a flexible side hustle and there is really no limit on how much you can earn per hour!

#15. Craigslist Flipping

On Craigslist there’s a tab labeled free, where people post items that they are giving away. Sometimes you can find items that actually have value, so pick up the free one then post it back on craigslist with a new price tag! This can also be done on facebook marketplace.

#16. Become a Tour Guide

If you live an a major city or an area with a lot of history then this may be an option for you. This side hustle may be really fun as you constantly interact with people from all over and get to show them places that you love. ToursByLocals is a site that you should check out if this is something that you are interested in.

#17. Start a Blog

If there is a topic that inspires you so much that you want to write about it and share it with others, then blogging may be right for you. One downside to blogging is that you are not guaranteed to make money and most bloggers say it takes months to earn their first dollar.
