Ever since I was a kid, I loved reading. To this day, it is one of my favorite hobbies. It is safe to say that the genre of books I read now differ greatly from what I read as a child (Harry Potter or really anything with magic mentioned). The books I read now are primarily for self education/growth, but a Harry Potter book may sneak it’s way back into the rotation.

The six books listed below are all ones that I have read more than once due to the impact they have had on my life. These are not listed in order of favorites, because they all are on here for a different reason.

With that said, here are 6 books to help enhance your financial health!

Books to Enhance Your Financial Health

Think and Grow Rich

Napoleon Hill, the author of Think and Grow Rich wrote this book in 1937. Since then it has gone on to sell millions of copies and is renowned as one of the most influential books.

Think and Grow Rich is all about creating and developing a successful mindset. Napoleon stresses the importance of having a money consciousness mindset if it is money that you seek. However, Napoleon makes it a point that being “rich” isn’t only about money. He talks about the several other ways you can be “rich”, such as rich in health, marriage, friendships, and career success. Having that successful mindset will push you to be successful and refuse to accept failure.

Napoleon States that, “The object of this book is to help all who seek it learn the art of changing their minds from failure consciousness to success consciousness.”

This book is one of my favorites and I am constantly recommending it to friends. It’s extremely motivating and pushes you to get into the right state of mind.

Understanding the power of your thoughts and the influence it can have in the world around you is eye opening. If you’ve been feeling stuck lately, then you may just need to change your mindset. Think and Grow Rich is a must read for those who are hungry for success in all aspects of life.

Your Money or Your Life

One of the all time best books on money, Your Money or Your Life has sold over a million copies. This book was originally written in 1992 by Vicki Robin and Joe Dominguez. Since then the book has been continuously revised in order to stay relevant, the last revision was released in 2018.

In this book you will learn Vicki & Joe’s 9 step guide to financial freedom. Along the way, they will teach you how to adjust your relationship with money into one that will set you up for financial success.

This 9-step guide has been proven to work by so many people. Throughout the entire book Vicki interjects with real world examples that act as evidence for the reasoning of each step.

It provides a great starting point to those who have never had a grasp on their finances and don’t know they should be doing. That’s not to say that this method is easy by any means. If you really want this to work you have to follow the steps to the tee and be disciplined enough to not get off track or give up.

If you’re looking for a financial guide then you definitely should read this book. Even if you don’t implement all the steps you will still learn a vast amount of valuable knowledge.

The Millionaire Next Door

Have you ever dreamed of becoming a millionaire? I know I sure have. The Millionaire Next Door written by Thomas J. Stanley is a focused around a 20 year study of real world people who are in fact millionaires.

During his studies Thomas found that a lot of the people with luxury cars and fancy homes where not as wealthy as you may think. What Thomas did discover was that a lot of the millionaires he met didn’t even live in upscale neighborhoods.

Quite honestly I found this book to be eye opening and motivating. The dream of becoming a millionaire has become much more tangible after hearing about these success stories from “ordinary’ people.

This book is for those who want to see that becoming a millionaire is possible.

Thinking in Bets

Annie Duke, the brilliant author of Thinking in Bets discusses different ways of approaching decisions to avoid emotional biases. Published in February of 2018, the book pulls upon Annie’s prior experience as a World Series Poker Champion to help people understand the mindset she uses to rationalize.

This book is eye opening. I had never realized how many biases humans naturally have and how quickly we act upon them. I believe if more of us read Annie’s book and utilized the lessons she teaches then we would all be making more sound decisions.

The Thin Green Line

The Thin Green Line written by Paul Sullivan and published in March of 2015 dives into the life of the wealthiest Americans. It points out patterns of those who are wealthy vs. those who are rich.

The advice given in the book is vital for your financial health. It provides you with an advantage, to treat your financial situation just like America’s wealthiest. A lot of the specific feedback they give about charitable giving, saving, insurance, etc. is invaluable.

This book isn’t talked about often because it is not as mainstream. However, it provides some of the best advice and insights out of all the personal finance books I have read.

The Richest Man in Babylon

If you are someone who hates reading really long books then this book will be a great fit for you. At only 144 pages long The Richest Man in Babylon is a quick read.

The Richest Man in Babylon was written in 1926 by George S. Clayson. The story takes place in the ancient city of Babylon and is written in a series of parables. Throughout the entire book you will learn simple financial advice that so many either don’t understand or turn a blind eye.

Three things that I took away from this book are:

  1. Understand the difference between necessities and luxuries.
  2. Always invest in what you know best.
  3. Invest your money and make it work for you.

These three takeaways are simple yet powerful and this little book is packed with even more great lessons. I recommend this book to anyone interested in personal finance and wealth creation.

Wrap Up

Each one of these books have played a huge role in my financial well-being. I would highly recommend any of them for those who are looking to further educate themselves on the topic and enhance their capabilities. These books have taught me so much about the psychology of wealth and the steps to take to accumulate with effectively. I recommend reading every single one of these, but start with the one that stuck out to you the most.
