The new year has begun and is well underway. We are currently only 13 days into the roaring 20’s and it seems like so much has already happened. The news headlines have been filled with military tensions, political drama, and natural disasters. I’ll be honest, it can be really distracting with all this “noise” going on in the world. How can I stay focused on my new year’s resolutions when Meghan and Harry are cutting ties with the royal family and moving to Canada!?!

The unfortunate truth is that the majority of people give up on their new year’s resolutions way to quickly. A study conducted by Strava, concluded that the majority of people give up on their resolutions on January 19th of every year. Strava refers to this day as quitters day.

The bad news for Strava’s study is that you’re not a quitter and on January 19th you’ll be smiling while you work on accomplishing your goals!

If you find yourself reading this post after January 19th and have slowed down or stopped your goal progression then use this post as a jump start and get back to it! To avoid failure and achieve your goals for 2020 you need: a clear vision, a roadmap, and an accountability partner.

Remember Your Vision

Having SMART goals that revolve around a clear vision will help you stay on track. One trick that helps keep my motivated is creating a mantra around your vision. A mantra is a word or phrase that is used to help keep you focused. Create a mantra that motivates you and keeps you on track to achieving your goals.

Your 2020 Road Map

Creating a roadmap for your vision will help take your SMART goals to the next level. Your roadmap should be a detailed plan to guide you to accomplishing your goals and making your vision a reality.

If the timeline for your goal is one year then I suggest making a road map that goes month by month. At first the outline that you create for the first 1-3 months will be more detailed than months 4-12, but as time goes on you will be able to go back and revise your roadmap.

Your monthly road map should have detailed tasks that need to be completed in order to accomplish your overarching goal.

Chipping away at your goals by completing monthly taskers will help keep you motivated and stay on track. In essence, your monthly road map should be the to do’s that you need to get done in order to stay on top of your goals.

The next thing that you’ll want to do is find an accountability partner.

How Do I Find an Accountability Partner?

An accountability partner is someone that keeps you honest and pushes you to be your best. For example, to no surprise my accountability partner is Gina. She knows all of my goals and is constantly pushing me so that I accomplish those goals. The beauty of an accountability partner is that it works both ways, they push you and you push them.

When you’re looking for an accountability partner find someone who will push you even when you don’t want to be pushed. Find someone who you can trust and who you can believe in. A good accountability partner might be hard to find, but they will seriously boost your success rates.

Closing Thoughts

2020 is your year. This year you are going to accomplish your goals and January 19th is just going to be another day. Follow these tips and accomplish your 2020 goals.
