As the title suggests, this article will discuss the benefits of affiliate marketing and how we got started on our journey of affiliate marketing. If you don’t know what affiliate marketing is, do not fret! Keep reading to find out. đŸ™‚
People start blogs on all sorts of topics. From creating plant-based recipes to sharing knitting patterns, there are millions of blogs out there. However, there is one thing that most bloggers have in common; they don’t make the income they would like to from their blog.
Bloggers that want to make an income through their website but don’t participate in affiliate marketing are leaving money on the table.
When Jake and I started our blog, we didn’t want to be like the majority. Our goal was to help as many people as we could as well as make a sustainable income through this blog.
Since we like to set lofty goals and push to achieve them, we didn’t think much of having one of our goals to make money within the first 6 months of launching The Wicked Wallet. Especially considering that most bloggers don’t make a penny for their entire first year of blogging. We thought 6 months was aggressive and would push us to hustle.
It was to our own surprise when we actually beat our goal by 5 months… yes, you read that right. We made money in our first month of blogging!!
It definitely was not easy and we definitely did not get a full 8 hours of sleep every night but it, was totally worth it in our eyes. And since that first month our cash flow from this blog has steadily grown month-over-month.

All that said, we would have never made a single dime if it weren’t for one simple thing, affiliate marketing.
What Is Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is when you (a blogger/influencer/human being) gets paid a commission by a brand or company for bringing in leads, traffic or sales through a designated link. Commissions can be a percent of sales, a specific dollar amount or a gift of merchandise.
When we started our blog, we knew very little about affiliate marketing other than the incredibly impact it could make on our monthly cash flow from the blog. That’s why we took Michelle Schroeder-Gardener’s course, Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing.
Michelle from Making Sense of Cents launched her course Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing to help others learn her best tips and tricks on how to really grow your affiliate marketing income so you could potentially live off of your blog.
Michelle makes over $50,000 a month from Affiliate income, which in our opinion, makes her somewhat of an expert in the topic. Don’t believe that number? Go check out some of her income reports where she lays out exactly where all of her income is coming from (note that her more recent income reports are generalized for her safety since she is traveling around the country, but if you check out her November 2018 Income Report, you can see all of her affiliate income broken out).
Michelle started off knowing absolutely nothing about the topic but pretty quickly became a leader in the blogosphere because of her ability to quickly adapt and work with brands that fit her business. She created this course to help other bloggers avoid the mistakes she made when she started out experimenting with affiliate marketing. You can learn from her and avoid all the mistakes she has made in the past by taking her course.
